Original Poems III.

Patoum
Once upon a time

Once upon a time
when the wind blew so softly
the sun was setting
the clouds started to fade

when the wind blew so softly
a girl had a dream
the clouds started to fade
the laughter over shadowed

a girl had a dream
the sky about to open
the laughter over shadowed
how many times can a girl wish

once upon a time
the sky about to open
how many times can a girl wish
the sun was setting

 ROAD SIGN POETRY
Have you ever felt the pressure to stop?

I can only imagine the pressure,
the pressure of a day to day life,
the pressure to stop and take it all in.
life goes by fast enough,
have you ever taken it in?
Wind passes by, water dries out,
sun begins to fade
fire starts to drift and life begins to take off.
Memories seems so clear
and dreams seem so real.
life doesn't stop for anyone.
have you ever stopped for one minute
out of your day and just thought about everything?
Stop, you'll be surprised.

ACROSTIC POEM
History

Hanging by the moment, clutching on to the memories
In time they start to fade but you'll never forget
Sometimes the reminders of how it use to be bring a smile back
Telling everyone and seeing the laughs it brings
Over and over remembering can only take you so far
Reality starts to set in
You start to realize, the past is history but sometimes its worth re-living

Original Poems II

4)PANTOUM:
Trying not to look back
Facing forward into future
Where wishing never gets old
Re-living in my head

Facing forward into the future
Dreaming the day away while looking at the sun
Re-living in my head
If only I could stay forever

Dreaming the day away while looking at the sun
Memories stay near
If only I could stay forever
Moments go by

Trying not to look back
Memories stay near
Moments go by
Where wishing never gets old.

5) SPRINGBOARD POEM
I am the person who loves to laugh
Who is always smiling
Where nothing really affects me in a bad way
I am the person who is easy to get along with

Who has a ton of friends
Where I can be completely by myself and still feel content
I am the person who is a whole lot of personality
Who always is up to trying something new

Where people might judge but I really don't care
I am the person that is very genuine
The one that always here for any one, no matter what
I am the person who loves to laugh

6) HOW DO I FEEL NOUN?

Happiness is...

A point guard scoring her 1000th point
A football player scoring a touchdown
A baseball player hitting a home run

A mother seeing her child grow
A father seeing his little girl smile
A brother helping out a sister

A cancer patient getting cured
A person donating money
A doctor treating a vitcim

An individual doing a good deed
A teenager giving back to their community
A boy trying to save the world

The dreams that live forever
The love that never dies
The gift that keeps giving

Original Poems I

1)WHERE I AM FROM:
I am from the heart from love and emotion.
I am from the pool water in the backyard on a summer day
I am from the roses and the thorns.
I am from the egg hunt and the freckles, from Alice and Jack to the Bender's.
I am from the free spirited and the funniest humans.
From always being happy and laughing at yourself.
I am from the Catholics, born and raised there I always will be.
I am from New York also the chocolate creme pie.
I am from the Ice Cream with Grandpa and the funniest phone calls with John.
I am from those moments I will never forget and the people who have changed my life forever.

2)THIS IS JUST TO SAY:
As I walk by you my heart fills with emotion
I see you and wonder what you really think of me
I want to know if your proud of who I am today

I never know exactly what I do
I never know how to react
I hope you know I'm the most sincere person

I love the way you laugh
I love the way you smile
I love the way you say you love me

I'm sorry for not always being perfect
I'm sorry for not always trying
I'm sorry for something I should have said a long time ago

3)I WANT TO WRITE ABOUT:
I want to write about
how school has taken over my life,
how I never feel like that class is worth it

I want to write about if I'll ever make the pros
What will I be like in 10 years and how
I can make a change in the world.

I want to write about how I'm friends with you
but lately you've been getting on my nerves,
how in February I'm suppose to go to Florida with you
but you annoy me in a day of school

I want to write about my flaws as a person,
How I have screwed up.
I want to write about my senior year being a football star

I want to write about how I wish I knew what my siblings thought of me
I want to write about how I love my family so much
I want to write about how I can be so mean sometimes
I want to write about how I am looked at as a hero.

"Vocabulary On My Mind".

I used to have a best friend, In the inception of our friendship we were so altruistic toward each other and never insolent. Our friendship was always cryptic because we were so different from one another but some how made it work. In some peoples eyes she seemed arrogant for a 5th grader but I never thought like that. As years went on we were still cordial and nonchalant to each other but the older we got the older her attitude became. She started becoming less and less accessible but more and more stealthy and obdurate. I had a lassitude thinking about how I was going to make the friendship work. The friendship was becoming a debacle. If we were to ever be friends again my emotions would be effervescent but for now I still remain skeptic about the situation.

“What I Need to Know about WRITING AND WRITERS to Become a Better Writer”

Stood out from Presentations:

1) Not everyone writes just because they have to
2) You can write about whatever you like
3) Reading can help you write
4) Write about what you care most about
5) Never be afraid to try something new.

I think what most stood out to me about the presenters is the fact that they all were so different but they all were connected by one love; writing. These presenters taught me what it's like to be a writer and how they don't always write just because it's their job and that really inspired me.

Why I chose this topic:(How does what you read affect how you write?)
My partner Nicole and I wanted to do a question that could be found but the answer would surprise us. We chose our topic because we wanted to see if the majority of people write based on what they read or read based on what they write.
I actually really like the question we came up with because I've always wanted to know the answer to it. I think it will a surprising answer but I know that our documentary will keep everyone interested because of our topic.

Guest Speakers: Round FOUR Robyn Ringler

What I liked in each essay was that they were all based on real life, I liked how she used humor but also the more serious stories included lessons learned and her real feelings during the times. Example of using humor was when she said "laughter over took me with silent, involuntary gasps. Lily's furrowed eyebrows and entrenched feet only made me more hysterical."(Hanging with horses) Examples of a more serious tone were "That day in 1981, I not only lost a patient, but also a beloved friend"(Letting go) and when she said "Although my body looked the same, pieces were missing."(Dissection) I think the 3 essays I read spoke a lot to me because not that they necessarily relate to me in any way but they just made me thankful and realize how something serious could happen to me.  My direct links give the essay more power for me as a reader because they taught me life lessons and really opened my eyes to see what a person can go through, I have learned a lot by reading these essays and I know one thing for sure; never take life for granted and always enjoy the funny moments.

Round THREE = Stephen Leslie

(Refelction)
I thought the Prose's were actually very interesting but I don't really understand the point of a haiku after it, but again thats just my opinion. My favorite line in Stephen Leslie's Haibun is "I was alone with the dying patient, a women in her eighties. I pulled out my silver flute and in rhythm with her breathing played melodies and sometimes just tones of sound." because it is really descriptive and sounds like something that would be in a poem but it should only be a prose. I also really liked this because it shows and not tells because of the descriptive language. I don't really like the line "Speaking only when necessary. At the end of a long trip she guides me through the thick fog and haze, using her abilities to connect with an unseen higher power to guide us back home." because it doesn't do anything for me. It doesn't sounds like a regular paragraph or a poem to me. It does have descriptive language but I feel there needs to be more emotion in this line. Overall I think this is very cool to write about because its different than what I have ever written and it sounds like a lot of fun. I'm glad I got to look at some Haibans because it opened my eyes a alot.
Prose:
You don't know that feeling until it comes, the moments you wait for and the things you dream of. This is the best time of the year, no worries and no stress. In life you have to realize your main priorities and in summer, you don't have any. Your worries say small and your dreams stay big. The one time in the year you can be yourself 100%. No one has the same exact feeling, but with the wind in your hair and the sun on your skin you'lll never forget the moments like this.

(I did 2 Haiku's)
Haiku:
In the summer time
No stress no fights nothing wrong
Living the good life

Haiku:
Friends all around me
Shooting stars right behind me
Only my bestfriend

Deb Smith – Travel Writer

I read the essay Mussel Man--Rome, Italy: http://www.parentingexpress.com/Stories/Memoirs/0058.htm

While reading the essay, written by Deb Smith I learned a lot about one of the places I've always wanted to travel to. Rome, Italy- everyone that goes loves it and I certainly got that feeling from Deb Smith as well. The culture in Italy is different from us in a way that random guys don't come into restaurants singing like Deb Smith mentioned by saying  "Dressed in a camel hair coat, he clutched a small pile of sheet music. He walked halfway into the trattoria, stopped amid the tables, smiled and began to sing." I also think the culture is similar to us because Deb Smith also said “Okay, let’s find the subway.” Which means they have a way of travel that we do that many individuals use. I have learned a lot by reading Deb Smiths essay on Rome, Italy and it has made me want to go and travel the world. Their culture is different then ours but she infuses the article with with the country itself very well.

I Listened to

I liked listening to this article better than reading the one above by far. I just like being able to close my eyes and really imagine what the author is talking about or describing. When Deb Smith is talking about how her and her son needed to spend the Iceland money saying "At 10am on our last day in Iceland we went walking" I really could imagine people doing that and I wondered exactly what the streets looked like. Another example of using your imagination is when the author says "A dense oatmeal cookie with dried cranberries and sunflower seeds" I could really picture this and if I were to read this instead I don't think I would get the full affect. I think listening to essays offers more than reading essays because you can really use your imagination and I think that is a big part of being able to understand the point the author is trying to make.

(How does what you read affect how your write?)
My 2 Questions:
1.) When you write a story do you take idea's of author's book you have read to help you write better?
2.) Is traveling what you love to read about, sense you write about it so much?

Round One: Therese Broderick

I'm glad were doing another author because the last women that came in insipred me and I'm hoping Mrs. Broderick can do the same thing for me. I went on to her blog and found out a lot about her including how she is a very family involved women and how they are very important to her. Therese Broderick said "I am a writer with an MFA degree" which made me think of what she actually does and how she gets inspired to write. I google Mrs.Broderick to find out more about her so I can actually relate to her and found some interesting things. Therese Broderick says "I almost never post anything on the internet without using my real name" I actually think thats very smart of her. I would also post my real name because I feel that more people could trust you and connect with you. The one thing that Mrs. Broderick uses in her poems is talking about her daughter. She stated "My daughter Elizabeth Robinson (father is Frank S. Robinson) turned 18 in January 2011. At April's End was my gift to her. Each of these 40 poems captures a moment from her infancy, childhood, or teenage years." in her interview and this really made me think of how family oriented she is.
In conclusion when Therese Broderick says "When I write any new poem, I intend for it to be a beautiful work of human language (spoken/heard) that leads to wonder about the human condition." overall made me think about my work as an English student and how I am doing with writing. Through researching Mrs. Broderick I have learned many things by creating my summary that will make me write better and inspire me.
(290)

My Questions:
1.) Do you think by writing poems you become a better writer?
2.) What is so rewarding about poetry; how did you become so interested in it?
